Hey Sean, I just did some quick exploration sketches in different directions to see what I want to go for with this ship. Personally, I think 3, 6, and 9 might be going in the best direction so far, but I would like to get your opinion. I'm really struggling with these but if I have time I'll try to do some more this week before class.
Brief: The Horned King's transport, able to carry multiple persons (but can still be rather small). His ship was built with help from the Phaeii people, who are more technologically advanced than the majority of the world. This is the ship that the Horned King uses to capture Taran and Hen Wen at the beginning of the story, and also the ship he uses to track down the cauldron at the end of the story. Should somewhat match the Horned King's Castle, but will mostly resemble the Phaeii city that I have yet to design
10 week plan:
Week 1: Research, exploration sketching, solidifying direction (10-20 sketches)
Week 2: Selecting one or two solid directions and exploring within them (10-20 sketches)
Week 3: 5-10 sketches based on feedback
Week 4: 3-5 sketches based on feedback
Week 5: Choosing final design and refining, making iterations
Week 6: 3D if needed, start heading towards final
Week 7-10: Finalizing design
Hey Cara,
ReplyDeleteThis looks good! i'll post more on it later but this guy's work might provide some interesting inspiration as to how he layers the machine tech under the 'hood' or tops of his designs:

Thanks for the inspiration!
DeleteHey Cara,
ReplyDeleteSo based off the description, the more predatory shapes of 3, 6 and 8 I think feel most appropriate. Most of the others feel like chill drone ships or pleasure barges with their softer shapes and fatter designs. I kind of like the shell at the base of 7 though - that might be worth integrating into designs like 8. Its good you're thinking about how these ships will capture people like in 8 and 6 with the tentacle arms - purhaps consider where/how it will store/imprisson them? check out that Tom Cruise war of the worlds movie as to how they did it maybe. Great work though - carry on!
Thanks for the feedback, Sean! I'll keep exploring and sketching!
